Caregivers Can Give Care for Lou Gehrig's

Ever heard of the Ice Bucket Challenge? It's a recent trend that has hit Facebook, Instagram and all other social media outlets. With everyone quoting "#icebucketchallenge," it's got our followers wondering what the heck IS this this challenge. Well, it's a viral trend that started in efforts to raise awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, which is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The challenge, which consists of having a bucket of ice and water poured over one's head, is meant to raise awareness of the disease and to promote funding. Celebrities like Jimmy Fallon have already gotten on the bandwagon with it.

We, here at A-1 Home Care won't be doing the Ice Bucket Challenge anytime soon, but what we can do is continue to offer our caregiver services, From Lou Gehrig's care to Heart Attack Care, our 24 Hour and in home caregivers are able to administer all facets of care. Seniors Beat the Heat Thanks to their Caregivers

It's summer in California, which means trips to the beaches, pool hangouts and lots and lots of ice cream (It is National Ice Cream month after all). What is easy to forget, however, in all the excitement of summer, is just how hot it can be here. This week, in fact, the weather has been staying around 90 degrees F! Pools and beaches are good ways to cool off, but we can't all be around such sites 24-7. That's why we've complied a brief list on easy ways to cool off this summer.
  • Visit and relax at a bookstore, library, cafe, or any other commercial area that you enjoy: Most stores and commercial places have air conditioning, which is free to all who visit!. It's a great way to cool off while going window shopping!
  • Sit out under the shade in your local park:  Areas that are abundant with trees, grass and other other forms of vegetation are often cooler than other areas. This is because they reduce air pollution and offset the build-up of heat caused by urban structures. You'll see that by just laying down under the shade, you can begin to cool off and enjoy the view.

  • Ice Cold Water: The benefits of water are vastly underestimated. What many people don't realize is how water can truly help your body in more ways than just hydrating it. By drinking lots of water and especially ice cold water, you reduce your own body heat and feel cooler as a result, wherever you are!
These are fairly simple ways to cool off, but for some people, like children and the elderly, they find it much easier if there was a helping hand guiding them in the right path. That's why seniors in Fullerton are looking to A-1 Home Care to provide them with live in and in home caregivers to help them practice healthy and refreshing habits. Trained with Senior Care, Diabetic Care, Disability Care and more, our 24 Hour caregivers are able to keep you cool, healthy and protected.

Arts and Crafts Day at Downey Care Center

This week, A-1 Home Care took time off to go visit the lovely senior residents at Downey Care Center. We loved being able to meet and greet with them, and were happy to have the chance to meet the community members.

Starting from this past session, A-1 Home Care will be hosting half yearly art classes at the Downey Care Center. They will be headed by our Marketing Manager, Jackie Brown. This week, we worked on Valentines Day themed bookmarks. With the feelings of romance and candy in the air, we set out to create personalized book holders with glitter stickers, patterned papers, markers, colored yarn, and lots of friends and fun.

We met so many people! This time, we had a rowdy crowd of about 30 participants. We were so excited so see all of these people! We had a blast getting messy and making art with all of the wonderful elders at the care center.

A-1 Home Care hopes that you can take the time to visit one of our free events in the future! We enjoyed having a great time with the seniors in the community, and look forward to hosting similar events in the future. Check up on our company happenings on our blog, or facebook page!

Glaucoma Awareness Month/ A-1 Home Care Fullerton

Did you know that January is Glaucoma Awareness Month? As part of our effort to expose our readers to the latest health news, A-1 Home Care will be discussing glaucoma in support of this month.

Glaucoma is an umbrella term for a group of disorders in which the pressure in the eye becomes too great for the health of the optic nerve. Because of this increased pressure, vision becomes severely impeded, increasing in severity, and resulting in reduced vision and even blindness in adult and elder sufferers.

Although there is no "cure" for glaucoma, treatment can be highly effective and may prevent individuals from losing any vision. People who benefit from routine glaucoma screening are those at "high-risk", including people with:
    • African ancestry
    • Family history of glaucoma
    • Diabetes
    • Hypertension
    • Near-sightedness (myopia)
    • Chronic corticosteroid use
    • History of serious eye injury

A-1 Home Care can arrange for a compassionate, friendly caregiver to provide emotional assistance for elders with glaucoma recieving treatments or  surgery.
We provide care in  Fullerton, Downey, Norwalk, Long Beach, Lakewood, La Mirada, Cerrittos and other cities of Los Angeles County and Orange County.
